Throughout history, Europe has been a hub of artistic development of exceptional richness and great diversity where European cities have played a vital role in the formation and spread of culture.
The European Capital of Culture action is an initiative of the European Union which aims at highlighting this richness and diversity as well as common cultural aspects in Europe with a view to contributing to bring the peoples of Europe closer together and improve mutual understanding.
The call for submission of applications for the Union action “European Capitals of Culture” for the year 2021 for cities in candidate countries and potential candidates for EU membership is open.
