Two members of Partenalia took part in a high-level dialogue held in Carcassonne and focusing on the role of Local Intermediate Authorities and their cooperation at the European level to increase water resilience.
Indeed, the Diputación de Castellón, represented by its first vice-president, Mrs. Pallarés, participated in the EU Local Dialogue co-organised by the Département de l’Aude and the Committee of the Regions. The event was preceded by meetings of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM: https://cor.europa.eu/en/our-work/International-cooperation/Pages/ARLEM.aspx) with many of its members participating in the Local Dialogue as a consequence.
André Viola, a rapporteur of the ARLEM on Civil protection, has decided to resign the presidency of the Conseil Départemental de l’Aude in 2021 to focus on international solidarity and decentralised cooperation and has since then represented the United Cities and local Governments (https://uclg.org/) during various world events (United Nations in New York, Korea…) to discuss issues related to sustainable water management and resilience. As such Mr. Viola highlighted the key role of Local Intermediate Authorities in leading the way towards more sustainable and resilient water management practices.
Mrs. Pallarés took the floor to give the perspective of the Diputación de Castellon and of her village Canet lo Roig who is particularly exposed to water scarcity/stress. Please refer to the document below.
The coordinator met with representatives of ARLEM and Water Europe to discuss collaboration pathways in order for all three organisations to learn from one another’s good practices and for Partenalia members to be able to implement innovative water resilient solutions in their territories which will benefit the local populations.
