Many rural dwellers are raising their voice in order to defend Local Intermediate Governments (diputaciones). They represent an essential administrative level for municipalities with less than 20.000 inhabitants. Indeed, Local Intermediate Governments allow for equal access to public services, guarantee local autonomy and ensure cohesion within the rural areas as well as a balanced development across territories.
On last October, 2nd, Spokesmen and Vice-Presidents from the eight diputaciones of Andalucía met in the province of Huelva in order to express their commitment to raising the awareness as to their fundamental role in rural areas and to launch joint projects aimed at improving the services provided to citizens
Two members of Partenalia were represented at the meeting, Diputación de Sevilla and Diputación de Almería. They had the opportunity to present some of their undergoing European projects and to subsequently answer practical questions from their counterparts from other diputaciones.
Moreover, on April, 1st, hundreds of mayors and civil servants partook in the “New Challenges for Local Administrations” working day which took place in Valladolid and during which great emphasis was put on the necessity to adapt the workings of Local Administrations to the demands of the citizens by making them more efficient, financially sustainable and more transparent.
During the event, Luciano Parejo, professor of administrative law at the Carlos III de Madrid University and intervening guest at Partenalia’s Political Council in Peñiscola , stressed the leading role of Local Intermediate Governments in guaranteeing that all municipalities, regardless of their size, can accede to public services and infrastructures with equal conditions and quality. as major urban areas
