León joints forces with Bragança looking for EU funds for economic and social development

The Diputación de León collaborates with the Cámara municipal de Bragança aiming to establish a cross-border EGTC (European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation), allowing both institutions to obtain EU subsidies in order to undertake future development projects for both territories.

León and Bragança have common interests, which include:

  • Promotion of the agri-food sector.
  • Battle against depopulation of territories.
  • Creation of youth employment.
  • Promotion of tourism.
  • Revitalization of the economy, especially in rural areas.
  • Assistance to municipalities with fewer than 20.000 inhabitants.

The Diputación de León is trying to stablish itself in a strategic location to address from a privileged position the new challenges of the European Territorial Co-operation in the 2014-2020 period. The EGTC is a direct communication line with the EU.

Being a founding partner in an EGTC involves promoting initiatives for decision-making and participating in new management areas open to the EGTC in such fields as participation in joint action or local development plans integrated in cross-border, interregional and transnational cooperation programmes.
