Open Days 2014: smart and efficient growth towards Strategy Europe 2020

Partenalia, member of CEPLI (Confederation of European Local Intermediate Authorities), attended last 8th October the seminar organized by the association, held at Hotel Thon in Brussels. Political representatives from different local intermediate governments from France, Belgium, Germany or Bulgaria presented innovative solutions for water and energy management and digital inclusion.

Energy management in urban areas

The importance of a sustainable growth is one of the main objectives of the Strategy Europe 2020. The participants discussed about this issue.

The province of Liège (Belgium) explained how they reduced the emissions of CO2 through different actions, such as car sharing or reducing use of energy in public buildings. Liège is a similar example as the Lippe district (Germany), that presented a project of improving the quality of life of citizens by using an electromobile system for commercial transport in urban areas.

Digital exclusion

Internet offered many culturally and academically possibilities. The problem is that not everyone could have access to the net; the digital exclusion is a new problem in modern societies. Public administrations are promoting different actions to resolve this problem.

An example of this action is the one developed by the Department of Aude (France). Public authorities are promoting an ambitious programme in schools. In the province of Liège (Belgium) exists the Moby Dick Programme, focused on digital training on senior people.
