CEPLI stand
Partenalia took part in the 10th Summit of Regions and Cities organised by the European Committee of the Regions in Mons on March, 18th-19th.
Holding the vice-presidency of the CEPLI, members of Partenalia had the opportunity to exhibit some of their renowned gastronomical products at one of the largest stand of the Summit attracting participants and serving as a gateway to discussing the crucial role of Local Intermediate Authorities within the European administrative landscape as key actors of both territorial resilience and of the Cohesion Policy.
Visibility for Local Intermediate Authorities
President Alves Cordeiro clearly mentioned the leading role of “provinces” in the successful conception and implementation of the Cohesion Policy along with that of Cities and Regions in his speech on Monday, 18th. Following the institutional meeting with President Alves Cordeiro last October*, the efforts of Partenalia’s political leadership have indeed recently materialised through the clear mention of “Provinces” alongside “Regions and Cities” in the Guide for Partners of the 2024 European week of Regions and Cities in the Regional partnership section.
The visibility provided by this clear mention, both written and oral, is paramount to acknowledging the pivotal role of Local Intermediate Authorities as embodiment of the Subsidiarity principle and local relays of EU policies.
A key message stressed by many of the panelists throughout both days was that Cohesion Policy is not charity and as Younous Omarjee, president of the REGI committee, put it: “Without a Cohesion Policy, there is simply no European project.”
